11 x 14 inches Strathmore 500 Plate Bristol Board. Wood Derwent Pencils H, HB, B. Mechanical Pencil 0.5 4B. Drawing this was like returning to my first love--horses. All I ever drew was horses until about age 15!
i'm finishing the year taking online classes. my anxiety has gotten really bad and being in high school makes me breakdown and depressed. but i'm doing so much better since i've started classes at home and i'm getting socialization through my job and my friends. right now i'm at my dads school helping grading. the kids are so. freakin. loud. and annoying!!!!!!! ;____;
The attention to detail on this is simply astounding, especially since you chose to do a grey Arabian of all things in a traditional show halter. The muzzle and eye are so finely done that I am left speechless (or would be literally if I hadn't commented). The only thing that I would change is the extreme curvature of the nose, but, then again, Arabians are being bred more and more for that exaggerated characteristic, so it is an accurate representation. Please keep up the fine work.
Thank you soo much. I agree (sort of) about the face...I held the drawing up to a mirror (this gives me a fresh perspective on what I have done) and, indeed, it looked overly dished. I took the photo and did the same--holding both up to a mirror side by side...and the photo looked odd... The drawing is a faithful representation of the photograph and yes, they do seem to be breeding for MORE of a dish. I see photos of very young foals and they almost look deformed.
I assumed that was the case. It's kind of disappointing that they feel the need to dish faces to such an extreme now a days, though I suppose people follow the trends that the big stables put out there, and the overly dished heads are winning ribbons it seems. Regardless, your drawing is phenomenal and highly commendable. Brava.
This was a total joy to do. Probably the most difficult (or what I was satisfied the least with) is the decorative "collar" around his throat/shoulders. It looks ok in my dA image but full size seems to lack some detail and realism. Overall, though, I think it is my best piece to date.
